RESIDENCE 1856: possibly living in Springville, Utah with the family of his cousin Jane Ann Metcalf & her husband William Bown. Source: 1856 Utah State Census; FHL film 0505913. This census only gives names and sex. It does not give age or relationship and appears to me to give the surname of only the Head of Household. In the household of William Bown, a George is listed... as he is not counted in the household of J.E. Metcalf Sr who was living in Salt Lake at the time, and is said to have removed to Missouri in 1860, it is possible that this George is George Thomas Metcalf.

NAME: 1870 census has a child born Feb 1870 named George. 1876 Missouri State Census has a child whose name is possibly Orin G. (hard to read) under 10 years of age. 1880 Census has him named Orange A. age 10. Father's obituary in 1908 mentions a son named Orange Anthony. 1909 Colorado Springs Directory has Orange A. I believe that the child enumerated as George in the 1870 census is the same child who is later called Orange - note that his father was from Yorkshire and it would have been hard for the census taker to understand his thick accent. Age given at time of marriage confirms that the child born 1870 was indeed Orange. Also, note that his mother was the mother of 8 children, 7 living - the deceased child was the child from her first marriage to George Hobson.

BIRTH: 1900 Missouri Census gives month and year of birth as Jan 1882. Age given in 1910 census is 29, making birth 1881. Age given in 1920 Census is 38, making birth 1882. Death Certificate has birthdate 21 Jan 1881. Death record from "Gone Home" gives birthdate 24 Jan 1881. Jan 1881 would have been only 6 months after sister Julia's birth. Note the 1900 census was closer to her birth and a date given then may be more reliable than a date given later in life, but is still years removed from the event. Also, I don't know whether 24 Jan or 21 Jan is correct and both sources that give a specific date are connected with her death and so may be unreliable.
