DOCUMENTATION

HUSBAND Christopher WASLIN, Jr.

CHRISTENING: Hessle Parish Reg Bishops Trans; FHL film 0919427

MARRIAGE: Hessle Bishops Trans; FHL film 0919427. Of the parish of Skidby, Batchelor.

DEATH: Manti Baptisms; FHL film 0170380; page 414; copy poss Vauna Green: Christopher Waslin born 1768 Skidby, York, Eng., Died 8 Nov 1843. (note he was actually not born in Skidby - at least he was chr in Hessle.)

BURIAL: Skidby Parish Register; Burials 1813-1891; FHL film 1702893 item 16: 1843, Christopher Waslin abode Beverley, buried October [October is crossed out] Nov 11, age 75.

OCCUPATION: laborer; source: Skidby Parish Reg Bishops Trans (child's chr)

WIFE Anne NELSON

PARENTS: We have Sue Laing & Elaine Harris to thank for this wonderful find! They first located the christening of Anne Nelson in the Welton Parish Register. They indicate that the christening of Anne Nelson appears to be the only christening in the area that fits for time and place. Even so, this researcher (Vauna Green) remained concerned that Anne Nelson is such a common name--how could we be positive we have the right Anne Nelson? But NOTE: Anne Nelson Waslin named her 3rd child (2nd son) Francis Nelson Waslin. Where the name Francis came from in this family of common names (Mary, John, Ann) has always been a mystery to me. but the Anne Nelson christened in Welton was the granddaughter of Francis Harrison--he is the namesake of Anne's son Francis Nelson Waslin!

CHRISTENING: My (Vauna Green) source is Welton Parish Register Bishop's Trans; FHL film 0991075: "Anne daughter of William and Martha Nelson was baptized Dec 7th 1766." Note Sue Laing & Elaine Harris previously extracted the same date from the Parish Register; they indicate they searched the entire area and this is the only Anne Nelson found in all surrounding parishes in the appropriate time period. Their Parish Register source: Welton Parish; 1752-1781; PE106/2[7]; East Riding Archive Office, County Hall, Beverley, England

BIRTH: Manti Baptisms has 1770. Age given in burial entry in Parish Register is 58, which puts birth 1770. Age given in burial entry in Bishop's Transcript is 50, which would put birth 1778. There was a big tendency to round DOWN to the even number, i.e., even if a person was actually age 58 his/her age might be entered as 50 in a burial record. Besides, I am more likely to accept the Parish Register as it is the original record while the Bishop's Transcript is just that - a transcript. This chr date of 1766 is only 4 yrs earlier than date given in Manti records and Parish Register burial entry, which is within acceptable limits.
