DEATH: records of Frank Waslin, Kent, Engl his source: Parish Records
BIRTH: birth certificate copy in poss of Vauna Green: Born Tenth of March 1838 at Bishop Burton, given name William, Male, father Francis Nelson Waslin, Mother Jane Waslin formerly Hewitt, Occupation of father: Labourer, informant Francis Nelson Waslin - Father, residence Bishop Burton
CHRISTENING: Bishop Burton Parish Register; FHL film 1566051; item 11 Baptisms 1813-1872 has the christening: "25 March 1838 William, parents William & Mary Wasling, abode Bishop Burton, Labourer." This researcher (Vauna Green) does not know who William & Mary Wasling might be. There is no William son of Francis Nelson & Jane Waslin christened in or about 1838. Our William gives his age at the time of his marriage in 1859 as 21 which puts his birth in 1838. The birth certificate clearly states that William's parents are Francis Nelson & Jane Hewitt Waslin. At the time of his marriage he also gives his father's name as Francis Nelson Waslin.

CHILD 7 Robert WASLIN
BIRTH-MARRIAGE-DEATH: records of Frank Waslin, of Kent, England have: "Robert Waslin born 1842 Bishop Burton, son of Francis Nelson Waslin & Jane Hewitt, married Hannah Simpson 1865 at Beverley." THIS MARRIAGE INFORMATION IS INCORRECT:
A Robert Wastling did marry 23 Dec 1865, but his wife is Mary Jane Foster and his father is Robert (source is marriage certificate). According to the 1881 census, the Robert Wastling whose wife was named Mary Jane was born in Dunswill about 1838.
A Robert Wasling did marry Hannah Simpson 24 Dec 1867 at Middleton, but his father's name was given as Thomas Wasling. (Source is marriage certificate. Note his age given as 24-puts birth abt 1843.) The father of our Robert is Francis Nelson Waslin so this makes it look as though our Robert Waslin did not marry Hannah Simpson. However...
However, according to the 1881 census, the Robert Wastlin whose wife was named Hannah was born in Bishop Burton about 1844. The only Robert Waslin/Wastling I (Vauna Green) found in my search of the Bishop Burton Parish Register within that time period is the one chr 13 Nov 1842 (See christening entry below) and that Robert appears to be this Robert. I don't see a Thomas Waslin/Wastling having children in the Bishop Burton Parish Register at all, nor do I find an entry in the Civil Birth Index for either Robert. Also...
Also, the 1851 Census reveals Francis Nelson Waslin's family to be living in Bishop Burton - there is a son named Robert age 7 (puts birth abt 1844) born Bishop Burton. There is the family of a Thomas Wasling living in Skidby Carr, with a child named Robt. aged 14 (puts birth abt 1837) born Skidby. And...
AND...The 1861 Census reveals what appears to be our Robert Waslin living in Middleton, where Hannah Simpson was born. All this circumstantial evidence makes it appear that maybe they got Robert's father's name wrong on the marriage certificate and that this is the Robert who married Hannah Simpson after all? Circumstantial evidence is not proof! Not being sure how to proceed I am leaving our Robert married to Hannah Simpson WITH THE CAVEAT THAT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IS WAS A DIFFERENT ROBERT WHO MARRIED HANNAH SIMPSON.
HERE IS THE MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE FOR ROBERT WASLING & HANNAH SIMPSON: certificate in poss of Vauna Green: 1867 Marriage solemnized at the Parish Church in the Parish of Middleton in the County of York. December 24 | Robert Wasling / age 24 [puts birth abt 1843] / Bachelor / Labourer / residence Middleton Wold / father Thomas Wasling, Labourer | Hannah Simpson / age 22 / Spinster / residence Middleton Wold / father William Simpson, Labourer | Married in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Church of England after Banns by me, H Blanchard Rector. This Marriage was solemnized between us, [he signed, her mark] in the Presence of us, the Mark of William Simpson, the Mark of Harriet Simpson.
CHRISTENING: Bishop Burton Parish Register; FHL film 1566051; item 11 Baptisms 1813-1872: "13 Nov 1842 Robert son of William & Mary Waslin, abode Bishop Burton, Labourer." Note parents' names given as William & Mary Waslin. The same thing happens on brother William's & sister Ellen's christening records. This researcher (Vauna Green) has the birth certificates for both William & Ellen and those give the parents as Francis Nelson & Jane Hewitt. I need to order Robert's birth certificate, but I'm confident that the 3 entries giving the parents as William and Mary are some kind of weird mistake. See the notes for William & Ellen. 1851 Census for family of Francis Nelson Waslin includes Robert aged 7.
BIRTH: I (Vauna Green) do not find an entry in the Civil Registration Index that looks like him.
1851_CENSUS: Bishop Burton:
Francis Nelson Waslin Head Married age 49 Ag. Lab. born Skidby Yorkshire [puts birth abt 1802]
Jane Waslin Wife Married age 49 born Drypool Hull [puts birth abt 1802]

William Waslin son age 13 born Bishop Burton Yorkshire [puts birth abt 1838]
John Waslin son age 11 Scholar born Bishop Burton Yorkshire [puts birth abt 1840]
Robert Waslin son age 7 Scholar born Bishop Burton Yorkshire [puts birth abt 1844]

1861_CENSUS: MIddleton Grange, Middleton, Yorks; Piece Number RG9/3609 ED 02 folio 017v:
Edward Wasling Serv Unmarried age 18 occupation Carter born Bishop Burton Yorks
1881_CENSUS: Note this entry is for the Robert who was married to Hannah - if our Robert did not marry Hannah Simpson this is a different Robert.
Dwelling: Main Street, Bishop Burton; FHL film 1342145; piece/folio 4742/117; page 16.
Robert Wastlin Head Married Male age 37 born Bishop Burton, occupation Maysheen Owner (Proprietor) (AM Pro) [puts birth abt 1844]
Hannah Wastlin Wife Married Female age 35 born Middleton, York, England
George Wastlin Son Male age 11 born Bishop Burton
Eliza Wastlin Daur Female age 6 born Bishop Burton
Alice Wastlin Daur Female age 3 born Bishop Burton
Agnes Wastlin Daur Female age 7 d born Bishop Burton
DEATH: per Frank Waslin, Died 1898 at Bishop Burton. Killed whilst felling tree. The question is - which Robert Waslin died 1898 at Bishop Burton while felling a tree? This one or the one who married Hannah Simpson? Or is this the Robert who married Hannah Simpson??
DEATH: Civil Reg Index possible entry: Deaths 1898 June qtr Waslin, Robert age 54 District: Beverley vol 9d page 67 [this would put his birth 1844 so this entry is almost certainly for the Robert who married Hannah Simpson]
CHILDREN_DISPROVED: records of Frank Waslin, Kent Engl have Alice Waslin born June 1872; his source: GRO 9D 92.
Civil Registration Index has: Births 1872 June qtr Wastling, Alice District: Beverley vol 9d page 92 Civil Reg Index has: Births 1872 June qtr Waslin, Alice District: Beverley vol 9d page 109. Certificate reveals this Alice to be born 29 Feb 1872 in Beverley and the daughter of James Wastling & his wife Mary Elizabeth MOATE. NOTE I don't see an Alice Waslin in the Death Reg Index between 1872 and 1878, when Robert & Hannah Simpson Waslin do have a daughter named Alice. It it clear that the Alice born 1872 does not belong in the family of Robert Waslin & Hannah Simpson.
IGI: In the IGI there is an entry for Alice Waslin born Jun 1872 Bishop Burton, father Robert Waslin Mother Hannah Simpson. It appears that the submitter got their information from my (Vauna Green's) web site. I WAS NOT READY TO SUBMIT HER because she hadn't been documented. Now it is clear that the Alice Waslin born 1872 WAS NOT the daughter of Robert Waslin and Hannah Simpson. In other words, THE CHILD FOR WHOM THIS ORDINANCE HAS BEEN DONE DOES NOT EXIST. YOUR LESSON LEARNED: IF YOU'RE GOING TO STEAL A RESEARCHER'S WORK, IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO WAIT UNTIL THE RESEARCHER HAS FINISHED HER RESEARCH AND THEN STEAL IT. MY LESSON LEARNED: IT TURNS OUT TO BE A BAD IDEA TO POST RESEARCH IN PROGRESS. I HAD HOPED DOING SO WOULD PROMOTE RESEARCH, BUT IT TURNS OUT THAT IT ONLY PROMOTES BAD SUBMISSIONS. (I've learned my lesson; I hope you've learned yours.)

The same thing happens on brothers' William's & Robert's christening records. Note birth certificate gives parents as Francis Nelson Waslin & Jane Hewitt, and marriage certificate gives father as Francis Waslin. The parents given in the christening record appear to be a mistake.
