NAME: It appears that Freda’s parents' family emigrated to the US surnamed KINDBLOM, but that at some point some or all of them started going by Kimball. What follows is the documentation in timeline form:

That passenger list has the mother and all of the chidren who are living in 1882. Note that the father is not listed. Here is an entry that could be him - coming a year later - from the Passenger and Immigration Lists Index; database online at Ancestry.com:

Freda's father must have died but as of yet (2007) no death or burial record is found for him. Or maybe there was a divorce? Hattie was born in 1884 so he had to have been around for her conception.

1900 Census: Freda's mother is Enumerated at Salt Lake City Ward 4, Eighth Street.

Before 1906: Freda's sister Hattie marrys John Edwin/Edward Zwicky. No marriage record found yet, but they had a son die June 2 1906. On the death certificate (seen at Utah State History Research Center) the mother's maiden name is given as Hattie KINDLON, born Utah.
In 1907 the Zwickys had a stillborn daughter. On this death certificate the mother's maiden name is given as Hattie KENDLON.

1908: Freda's sister Anna (seen above in the 1900 census) marries. (Source is the Western States Marriage Record Index; http://abish.byui.edu/specialCollections/)
Anna E. KENDBLON & Oland K. Pratt Jr. married 25 Feb 1908 at Salt Lake City.

1910: Freda's mother is found in the 1910 census - still on 8th Avenue with the same husband James Terry. This time her daughter Anna and Anna's husband Olund Pratt are counted in the same household.

H. KENDBLOM married Kate Baird 7 Jan 1913 at Farmington, Davis, Utah.

1918: Helga's brother (the one that got married in 1913) fills out a WWI draft registration card. (image seen online at Ancestry.com) Date of registration: Sept 12, 1918.  Name: Helgo Theodor Kindblom. Residence: 267 8th Avenue, Salt Lake City (this is the address he's at later in the 1920 census). Age 40. Date of birth: June 1st 1878. Occupation: Barber. Nearest Relative: Kate Kindblom (wife). Physical description: medium height, medium build, blue eyes, light hair.

1920: Freda's mother is found in the 1920 census - still on 8th Avenue with the same husband James Terry, now retired. Living next door to them (on the same property) is Freda's brother - the one who just got married with the surname KENDBLOM. Here is his family:

  ---  3 children listed, all born Utah. The oldest is 6 years old.

1936: Freda's brother-in-law John Edwin Zwicky dies 11 January 1936 at Ogden, Weber, Utah. Cause of death: Acute coronary occlusion. On his death certificate his wife's maiden name is given as Hattie KIMBALL.

1936: Freda's mother dies 13 Jan 1936 at her home on 8th Avenue in Salt Lake City. The informant on the death certificate is Freda herself and Freda gives her name as Marie KIMBALL Terry. FYI, cause of death Bronchial Pneumonia, Fractured left hip - Fell down. She was a widow and 84 years old. Buried at Salt Lake City Cemetery. The burial record has her name Mary KIMBALL Terry. 1942: Freda's brother Helgo/Arthur dies 18 Oct 1942 at Price City Hospital, Carbon County, Utah. His death certificate has his name Art Kimball. Born June 1st 1878 Sweden. Father: Alfred Kimball born Sweden, mother Marie Soderberg born Sweden. Wife Kate Baird Kimball. Cause of death Myocardial failure, arteriosclerosis, mitral stenosis. Buried 10-21-1942 at Salt Lake City Cemetery. (death certificate seen at Utah State History Research Center; http://historyresearch.utah.gov/indexes/index.html)

1957: Freda dies 2 Dec 1957 at Ogden, Weber, Utah. The obituary index has her name Freda Kimball Metcaf, daughter of Alfred & Marie Soderberg Kimball. (source is Obituary Index to Salt Lake Tribune & Deseret News; FHL film 0821673)
