FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Before e-mailing me, please read through this FAQ. It might answer some of your questions. Please review it and if you don't find your answer please feel free to e-mail me.

Q. I would like to research my family tree but I don't have the faintest idea where or how to begin.

A. Maybe this Tutorial will help you.

Q. My great grandfather was ______ of______. Can you tell me who his parents were?

A. I'm sorry, no I can't.
Unless: If you suspect you descend from John Edward & Mary Waslin Metcalf but can't make the connection, I might be able to help you find your link.

Q. Will you post my genealogy?

A.  I'm sorry, no I can't.

     Unless:

If you are a descendant or extended relative of John Edward & Mary Waslin Metcalf. I would be pleased to post any families that connect in any way to any of the lines I post on the ancestry & descendants of John Edward Metcalf & Mary Waslin. (Note that I do not post living individuals.)

Waslin/Wasling/Wastling: I believe the Waslin/Wasling/Wastling names to be one extended family. This web site serves as the beginning of a One-Name Study for the name Waslin/Wasling/Wastling and I would like to post every one of these names in the world in the hopes that we can flesh out this family. (And, of course, in the hopes that I can find my Christopher in the process!) (Note that I do not post living individuals.)

Q. I would like to know the history of the Metcalf/Metcalfe Family in the U.S.

A. As I understand it, there were more than a few Metcalfs who immigrated from the U.K. to the American Colonies in the 1600 & 1700's. Most of the eastern Metcalfs descend from one of these early Metcalfs. I am not related to these early American Metcalfs--my Metcalfs immigrated to the western United States from Yorkshire in 1853. Numerous other Metcalf immigrants also settled in the American West during roughly the same time period. Many of the western Metcalfs descend from these later immigrants, though it can be safely said that the eastern Metcalfs have pretty much covered the nation by this time, that many of the western Metcalfs have ended up in the eastern U.S., and that many other Metcalfes have come to the "Colonies" too. The name Metcalf/Metcalfe invariably goes back to England, specifically to Yorkshire. The Metcalfe Society has an interesting article about the history of the Metcalfes in Yorkshire.

All that said, please -please- feel free to e-mail me.
