edges & corners) (When the See of the Archbishop of York was vacant due to
death or other reason, the Court of the Dean and Chapter of York held
jurisdiction.)
book: Indexes 1652-1680, 1681-1756, 1686 & 1683 (bottom of some pages too
dark to read)
book: Wills proved during Vacancy of the See 1807-1808 (in mostly good

Abbreviated Words: I have tried to transcribe the entries exactly as written. Where I use a ~ in the middle of a word, i.e. Tho~s, it indicates the entry was written with the letter(s) following the ~ superscripted. Many words in the indexes are abbreviated with a line over the word, i.e. the word Tuition is abbreviated as Tuon with a line over the word--I am unable to duplicate the line over such abbreviated words and simply write the word as abbreviated sans the line.
Dates are old style as per the indexes (have not been converted to new style). Confused about English dates prior to 1752? Here's a Tutorial.
Disclaimers: I attempted to extract every instance of each surname in the indexes. I have transcribed each entry as it appeared to my eyes. I'm pretty good at deciphering Old English, but I don't pretend that I haven't made mistakes or missed entries. I do not have any additional information at all on any entry or on any person mentioned in any entry. A ? is invariably my own note indicating I was unsure of whatever precedes it. My [comments & clarifications] are added in brackets. If I have seen the probate record I include a [thumbnail in brackets] but please note that I haven't necessarily noted EVERY name mentioned in the will. I haven't taken the time to include the film number where I found that record either. Yes, I'm lazy.
