Dean & Chapter of Durham, Peculiar of Howdenshire

Probate Index

Source: Salt Lake Family History Library film 1835652 item 2 (A-H) 1521-1857, item 3 (I-Y) 1521-1857. Note item 4 is 1500's wills (not an index-the wills) not transcribed

Note: this is a typed index. It completely Alphabetic and each surname has the surname typed above the group of entries which bear that surname. The indexer has standardized surname spellings, i.e. the spellings Thornton & Thorneton are mixed together and that group of entries is preceded by the heading THORN(E)TON. The surname is not included in each individual entry. The indexer has modernized dates. Confused about English dates prior to 1752? Here's a Tutorial.

Disclaimers: I attempted to extract every instance of each surname in the indexes. I do not have any additional information at all on any entry or on any person mentioned in any entry. My [comments & clarifications] are added in brackets. If I have seen the probate record I include a [thumbnail in brackets] but please note that I haven't necessarily noted EVERY name mentioned in the will. I haven't taken the time to include the film number where I found that record either. Yes, I'm lazy.
